Accessing the Medical Record

                                                     

One of the most useful applications of the Ipad (or other tablet device) is to access the medical record. Many institutions use Citrix, a system for accessing a "remote" or "virtual" desktop. Citrix has created an App called the "Citrix Receiver" available on the Ipad and Android based tablet devices. Many PC based companies use Citrix to access documents and applications remotely. You can follow these instructions to begin accessing the portal established by your institution.

1. Download the Citrix Receiver App from iTunes or Google Play.

2. Open the App and click on the plus sign to add a location.

3. Open an internet browser and navigate the the webpage for the hospital portal address. Copy the URL at the top. Paste it into the box within the Citrix App and hit next.

6. You can now access your system by logging on as you would normally do.

There will inevitably be other applications that may access the medical record directly depending on the institution. For example, those that use Allscript's Sunrise Clinical Manager will have access through the new Ipad App (not available on Android currently) called Sunrise Mobile MD.
